Soma Yoga ॐ 1423 70th St NW, Ballardimage435

March 30, 2014 ॐ 10 AM – 4 PM

In every class we have students who ask for “HIP OPENERS!” But what does this really mean? What are they feeling, what are they wanting, and how does this differ from what our hips really need??

In our class you’ll discover the underlying complexity of the hip joint and pelvis, it’s affect on surrounding structures and it’s importance within the context of asana practice. This intensive study will offer perspective on both the Structure and Nature of this most integral area of the body.

  • Anatomy, physiology, kinesiology of the hip and pelvis.image434post hip muscles
  • Functional biomechanical principles.

  • Inherent risks of life and practice: cause and effect.
  • Moving within the framework of physics and geometry.
  • Maintaining healthy tissues and joints in practice.

Teaching Principles

  • Alignment principles to support health and longevity.
  • Observation points and verbal cues.
  • Approaches to adjustment.

Class will be spilt into small, digestible sections of lecture and movement. All props are provided, though you are encouraged to bring your own mat, water bottle, snack and writing instruments. Handouts are provided, but extra paper may be necessary if you take copious notes.
