Body of Knowledge: Anatomy-Rich Exploration of the Spine
Immerse yourself in the details of the spinal tissues and functions, strengths and weaknesses, relationship to our energetic body and nervous system, and how our Asana practice impacts this magnificent feat of engineering.
Sunday, January 29th, 2012; 10 am-2 pm $65 @ Lionheart Yoga Training–3102 30th Ave S., Seattle
Through a combination of Lecture and Asana Practice we will uncover the deeper workings of the spine in our practice to bolster the quality of our teaching. We will outline and discuss the tissues that build the spine, hold it together, and allow for such an amazing range of motion. We’ll cover
the common ailments of the spinal tissues and how to best avoid them.
Using 2- and 3-dimensional visual models we will examine the musculature that supports this boney frame and creates the dynamic movements we take for granted each day. Identify the most vulnerable points in the spinal column and learn in detail how to fire the correct muscles to support these places.
Take control of your practice by inviting in a more detailed view of your internal terrain. Observe your own limitations and hypermobilities to improve the quality of your personal practice, and learn to look for them in your students.
While this course is designed for yoga teachers, it is open and appropriate for yoga students eager to gain deeper knowledge of their Asana practice.
Space is extremely limited, Pre-Registration is mandatory! Use this Body Of Knowledge Registration Page to save your space. Only registrants who are paid in full will be guaranteed a slot.

Anatomy-Rich Immersion Into The Hips
November 5th, 2011 @ Sutra Yoga, Seattle WA (Wallingford)
2pm – 7pm
$50 Pre-Registration Required–Space is Limited, register early
Get grounded in your roots as we immerse ourselves in the center of our Universe: the Hips and Pelvis.
Through Lecture, Asana, and Partner Work we will explore the anatomy, physiology and movement of the hip at a deeper level. We will take a closer look at the range of motion of this remarkable joint, examine it’s limitations and discuss it’s strengths. We will develop a clearer language through which to understand this complex system that supports the health of both the knee and the spine.
Lecture: We will employ visuals, 3-dimensional models and hands on adjustments to help us dive into a new level of yoga practice. This study will help us to begin an internal conversation that will help our practice evolve and grow.
Posture: Our asana practice will slow us down so we can pay close attention to the subtleties and depth that the hip involves. Armed with the knowledge of the structures and tissues that support us, we can visualize our movements from the inside, adding to our awareness, sensation and intelligence within our movement.
This is where our internal conversation gets REALLY INTERESTING. Fertilize your roots with the nutrients of knowledge! Grow from the inside out.

‘Tis the season for resolutions and goals. Set yours now, and get jump-started in the New Year with a strong foundation in a Practice that not only energizes and motivates the body, but calms and quiets the MIND!
Join me for a weekly immersion into the fundamentals of your new Yoga Practice. Together we will explore the shapes of the foundational poses of Hatha Yoga, learning how to build them from the ground up. In this format, we will have the time to pay close attention to action and alignment that a regular class just doesn’t have time for. Begin building new Muscle-Memory from the outset, learn to tap into your inner awareness, and gain the focus needed for seated meditation.
This 4-week program will cover the fundamentals of:
- Standing Poses & Forward Bends
- Balance Poses
- Twists & Backbends
- Core Stabilizers
- Inversions
- Transitions
- Pranayama Breathwork
- Guided Meditation
We will take our time to break poses down so they make sense within our own personal bodies. We will learn how to use tools and props to bring the pose to us in a safe way, and make modification for our individual needs. Don’t worry, we won’t be cranking out poses for a full two hours!! This format allows for plenty of discussion and questions, adjustments and breaks.
